Ho hum ... another snow day
But 8 in one year? And for "traces" of snow? That tends to wear on a mom.
This morning I awoke at 6 to begin what I thought was a normal Tuesday: getting my oldest to school by 8:20 and us to preschool by 8:40. I peeked outside to see if the snow that was supposed to "start at midnight and accumulate by morning" had listened to the forecasters.
Nope. No snow. So off to the shower I go.
On my way, my 9 1/2-year-old meteorologist stops me. "Mom, there's no school today, go back to bed," he says.
"Brady, I'm not falling for that," I tell him, "I already looked outside and there's no snow."
"All I know is there's no school," he says, grinning.
So I do what any normal mother would do - I disregard his word and check an official source of info. In this case, it was the district web site.
Minutes later I must eat my bathrobe. School has, indeed, been cancelled today. So back to bed I go.
When I awoke again at 7, the ground was powdery white. Certainly not anything that would have called off all private and public schools save one in my FORMER state of residence, but the people who live here in the landscape of roller coaster roads are terrified of snow. This place is paralyzed by what most states consider normal snowfall because of the shape and slope of these roads.
So in a way it's ridiculous, but in another way, it's a relief. Until you hit the eighth snow day, anyway, and the relief is tinged with dread. ;o)
